My Scholarship entry - Boat delivery to the British Virgin Islands

British Virgin Islands | Friday, January 11, 2013 | 5 photos

I am 25 year old zoologist, gold miner from New Zealand. I have spent the last three years travelling the World looking for new experiences and meeting new people. My true passion is the outdoors and I love being emerged in everything from rain forests, artic tundra to coral reefs. I have always loved photography and constantly try to get a unique perspective on places I visit.
My current mission is to self teach myself professional grade photography and editing for a upcoming 1500km canoe trip through the Peel Watershed. Myself and 5 friends are wanting to make a documentary to help save one of the largest, intact boreal forests from development and mining (www.paddleforthenorth.org). Therefore I am taking as many opportunities as i can to learn about photography and editing so I can produce better photos. Ideally I would like to make a career out of showing the World that untouched places still exist and that we should not only protect them, but get out there and enjoy them. This trip would be an amazing learning opportunity for me and a great entry into professional photography. So hopefully I have grabbed your attention. Thanks, SImon Lucas

About simonlucasnz

Fun in the Sun. After 13 days at sea, it was great to get back onto solid ground and enjoy the ocean from a different setting. This shot was taken while playing amongst the volcanic boulders at The Baths, Virgin Gorda. I think it captures the mood of the day and highlights the importance of not only traveling to amazing places but to enjoy them.
