    The Humble yet Majestic Pelican. The BVIs has some amazing animals on display. From shy lizards to tropical fish. One of the most recognizable is the Pelican. It is amazing to watch them working an area and dive bombing various schools of fish. Each bird will have many attempts before they are successful. This photo is of a pelican drying it wings after a successful dive. I chose the photo because for me the Pelican will always remind me of my time there, both the hours watching them in the isolated beaches but also because of the connection it has with both the land, sea and sky. Which I can relate to. by: simonlucasnz Views[425] Sun kissed islands. To be honest I wasn't expecting the British Virgin Islands to be so mountainous. They rise steeply out of the depths to around 1700 feet. Consequentially it offers great hiking and amazing ocean views. This is the view looking west towards Great Thatch Island from above Cane Garden Bay. I chose this photo because of the great combination of light and color but it also gives the viewer insight to the local topography and the many small islands dotted around the area. by: simonlucasnz Views[215] Fun in the Sun. After 13 days at sea, it was great to get back onto solid ground and enjoy the ocean from a different setting. This shot was taken while playing amongst the volcanic boulders at The Baths, Virgin Gorda. I think it captures the mood of the day and highlights the importance of not only traveling to amazing places but to enjoy them. by: simonlucasnz Views[224] Surfs up, dolphin style. During the delivery we were never truly alone. We had gannets and seagulls following us as well as the occasional whale or flying fish. On this particular day a pod of dolphins surrounded the boat and began surfing the bow waves. I got some great shots but I selected this one because it captures the action from the dolphins perspective. Something you don't normally see by: simonlucasnz Views[290] A World of our Own. We left Newport, Rhode Island on a 64ft Sailboat heading to the British Virgin Islands. Day 1 began with stormy seas, and after a rough night we were greeted with glassy calm conditions. The flat seas allowed me to take this photo. I climbed 85 feet up to the top of the mast with my camera firmly strapped to my back. I selected this photo because it captures one of the feelings onboard the boat; that when you are surrounded by endless horizons and there is no land in sight, it literally feels like your in your own little world. by: simonlucasnz Views[1648]
