I spent four years travelling around the world and have now returned to NZ to attempt to make a documentary. While travelling in Canada, I joined five mates and together we paddled, pulled and hiked three canoes 1500km through the wild northern backcountry. It was an amazing experience and we managed to get some incredible footage which I am now trying to cut together into an inspiring, adventure conservation documentary. We are trying to try save one of North Americas last intact wild ecosystems and hopefully this film can advocate for its protection. Through this process I have gained a huge passion for sharing stories through the lens of photography and film. But I am still very much a beginner. taught myself to edit on youtube. This scholarship would be an incredible learning opportunity and hopefully allow me to develop my skills and more importantly learn first hand from an experienced story teller. I have spent the last three years travelling the World looking for new experiences and meeting new people. My true passion is the outdoors and I love being emerged in everything from rain forests, artic tundra to coral reefs. I have always loved photography and constantly try to get a unique perspective on places I visit. My current mission is to self teach myself professional grade photography and editing for a upcoming 1500km canoe trip through the Peel Watershed. Myself and 5 friends are wanting to make a documentary to help save one of the largest, intact boreal forests from development and mining (www.paddleforthenorth.org). Therefore I am taking as many opportunities as i can to learn about photography and editing so I can produce better photos. Ideally I would like to make a career out of showing the World that untouched places still exist and that we should not only protect them, but get out there and enjoy them. This trip would be an amazing learning opportunity for me and a great entry into professional photography. So hopefully I have grabbed your attention.
