le mistral en France

FRANCE | Sunday, 4 November 2007 | Views [504]

bonjour...since this is my journal I intend to look back on for tips and info, I forgot to add that in Barcelona I would not recommend the H10 Marina Barcelona, nice enough but expensive and not much charm and mediocre beds. Oh and my friends from avignon..Marie was 24 and the oldest 28. ok done with that

Here in Arles would definately recommend Le Calandal, provencal feel, outdoor tea room, lovely garden with ice cream and snacks and smack dab in the middle of the arena and the theatre, The food choices out the door are incredible. Last night I went to a lovely cafe and had  salmon with salad with thinnly shaved slices and sauces, 2nd course was canard margaret, duck...it was so good melted in my mouth, served with these cheesy potatoes and foie gras cake thing. Desert was the best Tiramisu I have ever had...I did not want it to end. I wandered the streets for a while after eating so my food could digest...yum

Today it is beautiful out again, but the mistral has come and the windsO are high and gusty we will see how bad it gets. Off to have some cafe and crepes.

Spent the day wandering the city seeing the spots where van Gogh created some of his best works, almost every piece he is famous for was painted here in Arles in a 2 month period.  He loved it so much he invited other artists to come live one being Gaughin.  they were buds and drank absinthe and painted, hence starry night. It was actually after being out and messed up on absinthe that they fighted, van gogh showed up with a razor, Gaughin fled town and we all know the rest of the story.

Also saw inside the incredible st Trophime church...so old, bunch of saints remains in there..some cool pictures.

well I am hungry so I am gonna take a little nap until it;s 8pm and I can eat..bon soir
