22 August, Friday

UNITED KINGDOM | Friday, 22 August 2008 | Views [264]

This morning we started off with a visit to Costco, a huge wholesale shop that sells just about everything. It is American in origin and, although primarily for businesses, it is possible for individuals to buy a card which enables them to purchase the goods. Apparently, a branch will be opened in Melbourne in the near future - we recommend a visit!

After lunch, we set off for Delamere Forest, in Cheshire. It was about a three-quarter hour drive and we were pleased to see that it hadn't changed much in the 39 years since we had last been there. We had a lovely walk through the forest - it is really lush and green and, thankfully, it didn't rain! It seems to be a very popular place, with walkers, bike riders and horse riders enjoying the scenery.

When we got back to Allan and Dot's they persuaded us to go to Bingo with them this evening, which we did, although we didn't win a thing!

Tomorrow we're off to a big street market in Liverpool and later on, some of the family will be coming to say goodbye to us.

Great Britain now have 18 Gold medals, a total of 44 medals in all - they have done amazingly well and it has been great seeing the reaction of people here. Hopefully this will augur well for the 2012 Olympics in London (although, naturally, we hope the Aussies do better!). It's been good having two countries to barrack for whilst we're here.
