Sam and Jeremy had left, so we had the day to ourselves. In the morning we went for a proper look around Holmfirth and (of course) it poured with rain! Nevertheless, we visited quite a few gift shops and unfortunately(!) found an Edinburgh Woollen Mill, where a top just jumped out at me and asked me to give it a home - what could I do? You guessed it! We also bought a couple of things for the children and had the obligatory cuppa (at the Cafe@Penny Lane again, because we knew it would be good, and it was).
In the afternoon we set off for Sheffield, to visit Pam, a friend of Ron's from his Youth Group days, and her husband Jim. Once again, Tom Tom came to the rescue and we had a nice, uneventful drive. Their daughter, Caroline, was just leaving so it was good to meet her too, albeit briefly. She is expecting her first baby and naturally the whole family is thrilled to bits.
It was lovely to meet Pam and Jim (I hadn't met either before), they were so easy to talk to and made us feel very welcome. Pam is a mad Liverpool supporter, and her car proved it! It is bright red and festooned with Liverpool paraphenalia - I think it looks very cute but Ron, the Evertonian (enemy) was less impressed! Even the door handles have the Liver (pronounced Lie-ver) Bird on them, the number plate has a Liverpool FC logo and all sorts of other things (see photo attached). Pam's mobile has the tune to "You'll Never Walk Alone" as its ring-tone. It turns out Pam and I have somethng in common - we both attended Liverpool College of Commerce in the 60s, albeit in different years.
We left Pam and Jim's around 4.30pm and drove home through the traffic and the rain.
