Day in Santiago Atitlan

Elena getting a hair wrap from a Maya girl in Santiago Atitlan.
Took a boat ride across the lake today to Santiago Atitlan, a Maya town. Unlike Pana, it´s not filled with hotels, restaurants and travel agencies. However, there are the visiting tourists and the locals selling their crafts to them. Elena got a colorful hair wrap from a girl about her own age. We also saw the patron saint of this area, Maximon, a brightly-clothed, cigarette-smoking, rum-holding effigy worshipped by most in the area. Lots of smoke, loud prayer, and a bunch of the men caretakers hanging around. Sufficiently creeped the kids out!
