On our first full day in Guatemala, we decided to risk our childrens' lives. We went to a nature reserve outside of Panajachel, intending to see coatis, spider monkeys, butterflies and coffee plants, and maybe take a zip line ride through the trees. The kids got really excited about the zipline idea, so we splurged. It looked safe and official, with serious harnesses and helmets, and posted assurances as to cable strength, testing, etc. Seemed fine. We definitely got more than we expected. Instead of just zipping through trees, we did 8 rides, each of them high above a forested canyon. These rides were 200-500 feet long and 100-300 feet above the canyon floor. I let it all proceed, watching the guides carefully, but I was pretty freaked out by it. I would never forgive myself if we let one of our kids plunge to his/her death. I´m glad to report we all survived. The kids want to do it again, I don´t think I´ll ever let them...

Wow -- I'm shaking in my boots just hearing about it. But your kids will never forget it.

Are you nuts?! Have you learned nothing? Alright, maybe I would try it too. But I am nuts.

We are enjoying the posts.

Macadamia nuts! Are they anything like academia nuts? Luckily for us, combined, you are both! Well, Rod: you may make a techno geek out of me yet. I really enjoy this. So nice of you to write. Maybe ten years from now you can teach and convince me to put up my photos lying all around.

Hi, Lori, Jarrett and Elena!

Thanks for the entertainment, and have a great time!

I must admit that I did partake in this crazy event as well in Costa Rica. I probably would not have gone if I would have known what it entailed but I am really glad I did! It makes the camp rope swing look like a piece of cake, huh?
Have a great trip and we'll see you in a couple of weeks!
