We arrived in Guatemala City and caught our shuttle van to Panajachel. Should have been about a 3 hour drive that took 4 hours due to traffic and road construction. Lori and the kids took a nap, and I enjoyed talking with the driver, Ignacio. Got to our hotel, which is nice and laid back, and ventured out into the town to find dinner. Went to a highly-recommended Uraguayan steak place, and it really hit the spot!
We experienced that wonderful moment in foreign travel, when you've endured a long journey getting there, somewhat apprehensive about what it'll be like, worried about the worst-case scenario. Then you settle into a comfortable hotel, and have that first comforting, hot meal, with enough familiar foods (and beer and wine) to make it all feel right.
