Friday Market in Solola

GUATEMALA | Sunday, 10 August 2008 | Views [645]

A thrilling ride in a chicken bus took us to the neighboring town of Solola, for its twice-weekly market day. This market is mainly for the people in the surrounding villages to buy and sell what they need. Combination farmer´s market, craft fair, and five and dime store, all in tents and booths around the town square and sprawling through the side streets. The clothing that the Maya wear is beautiful. The kids were grossed out by the piles of raw meat for sale, laying out on tables in the hot sun. They had a grand time sitting in a shady spot in the plaza, sipping a soda, and reading ... Harry Potter of course.
