BLUE HAWAII - WAIKIKI

BLUE HAWAII - WAIKIKI

After arriving at the right hotel, just across the road from Waikiki beach we settled in and walked around town a bit, had a drink at a beachside bar and started organising our tour of Oahu.

Our first major activity was a fishing trip on the reefs off Diamond Head. The trip was good and the weather fine, but the fish were on Mauii. Still we had a nice time and got a different view of Waikiki beach. We tried some Hawaiian food which was tasty and good but it's easy to see why they used to worship fat people.

We got up early in the morning for the bus ride out to Pearl Harbour and visited the memorial for the sunken ships and the 2000+ people who didn't survive. It (the bombing raid) only lasted 2 hours but they sunk 9 and heavily damaged 12 ships, 3 of which are still on the bottom. The memorial is low-key but impressive and very interesting.

Also went to al Luau and had a helicopter ride around the island - in a word FANTASTIC!!

Next stop Vancouver.
