My time at the end of the world has come to an end.
The journey on El tren del fin del mundo was a bit of a disapointment. True it was steam hauled but it was at a speed where I could walk faster and the scenary was to say the least a bit of a let down, the highlights being a water fall that was more a drizle and hundreds of acres of dead tree stumps!
Still it took me into the <national park in which I had promised myself a bit of a hike!
I set off from the train station with the intension of spending about 3 hours walking "the easy" trail along the side of the beagle channel. I walked for about 4:30 and never did get to the end! The first part was great as the path was right alongside the channel with great views but about half way thought the path went in land though dense beechwood forest, then it went up a hill about 400mts then down and up and down and up and down again. I was on all fours at one stage just to get up a hill. Going down was even worse.
When I got to the road after some 10 or 55 kms I caught the next bus back to town. I gave my return train ticket to a Yank as he was quit excited to travel the train. I saw him again the next day and he was as unimpressed as me.
Ushuaia put on a magnificent fireworks display Monday night (I think it was because I was leaving or it could have been to say farewell to the Tall Ships).
Anyway I´m now in Punta Aranas! One of the locals has already advised me that 1 day is enough so I will see tomorrow. Tonight walk was into town and first impressions: there,s abus out of here tomorrow at 2 maybe I´ll be on it!
More soon
No photos today as were on dial up again!
