Jaisalmer

INDIA | Thursday, 26 Apr 2007 | Views [1360] | Comments [3]

We traveled by overnight train to Jaisalmer, a sandstone town very reminiscent of   Bible times. The houses have flat rooves and people sleep out on them in summer, as people were doing when we arrived at 6:30 am. On the top of a hill is the fort, ... Read more >

Mt Abu

INDIA | Wednesday, 18 Apr 2007 | Views [1109] | Comments [1]

The road from Udaipur to Mt Abu had about 100km of roadwork - they are building a new tollway. There were plenty of jobs for civil engineers (Adam and Duncan) and hundreds of diggers and trucks with big boys playing in the dirt. We shared a car with ... Read more >

Visited the museum today. It has a long Indian name that I don't have with me now. It used to be the Prince of Wales Museum of Western India. There were plenty of statues of various "gods" - I can sight-read Vishnu, Shiva, Ganesh etc in Devanagari ... Read more >
