Hi Mum

From Sri Lanka to Koh Phangan

We are currently sat on our second plane of the day over half way through our very long travel day. So far so good. We've had a few hiccups - taking the wrong shuttle bus from Bangkok to Don Meuang and a bit of a dodgy stomach - but it just meant we were sat on the bus for longer being a little bit concerned that we might be late. Luckily we had lots of spare time between our flights and we still had enough time for a subway when we arrived at the second airport so its all worked out fine. Bangkok airport was also a bit confusing, we could go downstairs but not back up and the signs went round in a circle for a while. The line for immigration took forever and we were all so tired but its done now and we have a visa until February 19th.

I managed to sleep pretty much the whole way through the first flight - missing the flight food which was gutting. The person sat next to me didn't turn up so I could stretch out.

After I finished writing I managed to sleep for the rest of the flight. Luggage was really annoying afterwards, they had a carrousel but didn't use it, just dumping all the bags in a pile so people were pushing and shoving to grab them like a flock of seagulls.

We bought our ticket for a bus and ferry over to the island for 500 baht (about £10) at the exit of the airport. The bus was quite nice and pretty spacious which was nice. I dozed for the hour and half journey to the port in Donsak and then we had to wait for the ferry for about an hour. The ferry journey was long and it was so hot because we sat at the back right by the engine. We definitely should have looked around the boat before we sat down because inside was luxury compared to where we sat - nicer seats and there was a fan - but we were so desperate to make sure we had a seat that we didn't bother.

We arrived into thong sala in koh phangan at about 9. The taxis here are pretty cool, you get 10ish people in and you sit on benches in the back like a pickup truck. One of the girls we were in the taxi with was whinging the whole time because they put the bags on top of the truck and she was worried it was going to fly off, it was so annoying. She was also on our second flight with two friends and she was so loud and irritating the whole way.

All in all the journey actually wasn't that bad, we finally arrived at the hostel around 10, we had showers got changed and then had a beer at the bar. We're sharing a room with four other English girls around the same age. Two of them are really lovely , the other two are fine but I think they think we're weird.
