The adventures of the Mel

Roma, roma

I was originally going to open with complaints about jet lag and sore feet to see you get your indignation on, but thought I'd skip that part and move straight onto the parts that remind you that I'm here in sunny Roma and you're stuck at home in the cold and still working. Bahahaha. Did you like how I still worked in the complaints though? Awesome.

There's actually not a whole lot to report. After the always-long plane trip to get in - which I actually got sick on, can you believe it? The gastric explosion (both ways) coupled with dizziness that almost led to passing out! I was in the toilet eyeing off the 'attendant' button not sure if I was going to stay conscious. The only thing I can attribute that to is that I had some wine. I know it affects you differently on a plane, but seriously? 187 mL and I nearly pass out? Lesson learnt, I guess. I did sleep pretty well afterwards though.

So, anyway....not much to report. We landed and made our way to the B&B run by a young couple who are lovely. It's a great little place that has a wonderful rustic feel to it, the walls stripped back to cracked stone peppered with gilded framed pictures and mirrors. It is, however, largely contrasted/negated by the huge flat screen TV in our room. Ah well - win/win I say!

We've wandered around the city and I've taken Tessa to all the major sights except the Colosseum and the Vatican, which we will do over the next few days as well as wandering around to discover the many hidden gems the city has to offer. It has been fairly relaxing so far, aside from a short dose of photobombing around Piazza del Popolo. Let's just say that Tess's artsy photos were a little.....less artsy. Hehehehehe. I was also horrified to discover that they are doing works on the Pantheon, so Tess have been royally shafted. It is still awe-inspiring, and we were still allowed inside, but I feel a bit jibbed. I know it's necessary, but...sigh.

My Italian is very slowly recovering, but I have forgotten so much! I know it's been a while since I've really spoken it, but I just can't recall words that came to me so easily a year ago. Methinks I might get a tutor when I get home, coz DAMN.

Anyway, it's about lunchtime so I think that we might wander off and go find something to eat. Hope you're all enjoying the cold and work.

Ciao!!

Photos to come....later.

Sounds more like a bug on the plane Mel - I'm really glad you didn't pass out, nasty enough as it was!

At least you saw the Pantheon without the canvas shrouds that covered half of the facade when we were there.....
