We’ve been in southeast Asia for over a week now and I just now found the time to write something. I will try to break down this week as best as I can.
We flew from Rome to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia with layovers in Cairo and Bangkok. The flight was quite comfortable and empty and looooong (EgyptAir). We arrived in KL (Kuala Lumpur) the next day at 6pm. We got picked up from the airport thanks to Rasyidah’s trusty Mely and were due to spend 2 nights at her place in KL (her moms place). We had some awesome street food on night #1 (courtesy of Rasyidah’s influence) and called it a night. The next morning I felt terrible- I was finally feeling the flight and the time change so I was just incredibly tired. A friend of Rasyidah’s picked us up at 7am to go out for breakfast and then to check out the Batu caves on the outskirts of KL. Again, the breakfast food was amazing- a mix of Chinese/Malay/Indian fusion (what it seemed like to me) and Tom is determined to learn how to make at least some of the dishes- futile attempt perhaps?? The Batu caves were really cool, with the monkeys, temples, and massive diety statues. Climbing all of those stairs was good exercise too. Our new friend Capri had to head to work around noon so we headed back to the condo. We relaxed a bit in the pool, but I had no energy to use the gym that day :P (I am so lazy, even when I travel!).
After a much needed nap, we headed to Petronas towers to meet up with Rasyidah’s best friend for dinner. We had drinks whie overlooking the towers and then put all our trust in her for dinner—we were very very very happy!!! I am in LOVE with Malaysian cuisine!! My taste buds were in heaven! I haven’t even had a chance to look up some of the food we had during those few days in KL, but we are determined to learn it so we can find it more often in the future! It is on my top 10 food list for countries. It is true, I am a foodie!!! I am one of those travelers that focuses on FOOD when I travel. It is definitely in my top 3 things when considering places I want to go to…..I am guilty, but I think it’s a great thing to focus on!!!! The best part about Malaysian cuisine is the price!!! A dollar or 2 for a big plate of food…..works for me!
