Chapt. 3 - Amazing People

USA | Sunday, 12 October 2008 | Views [186]

My second night I got to go to a Birthday party of one of the volunteers, Elizabeth. I entered into a party of volunteers who have been together for several months and are from all around the world. 3 women were preparing food from Nepal while others decorated. It was a magnificent sight and I have never been surrounded by such a variety of people and cultures. The best part about it was everybody was gentle, happy, had good hearts, unique and by the end of the night we were all dancing. There were 14 nationalities there!  Believe it or not I was a little shy at first. New place, new people, new job, and lots of languages! The nights out with the volunteers have been the best. An ongoing theme seems to be food and sharing each countries version of something whether it be Happy Birthday or A Popular song or a dance. The laughter is always genuine and pure and each person has her/his exceptional beauty. In addition, everybody works well together as a team supporting each other as they problem solve their way through working for a Thai organization – more on that later – and they all have incredible skills to offer. Everybody loves to teach one another and learn from each other and we help each other keep it light and complete a task. All the volunteers and those that work closely with the organization have been incredibly welcoming and supportive of me as I was given an almost impossible assignment.  It’s the interactions, time shared, open hearts, joy and friendships that I have experienced with these beautiful people that really completes this experience for me. I will hold a place in my heart for each always and I am honored and blessed to have crossed paths with them
