ok. so i'm in taipei now. i don't know how easy it
will be to email after i leave taipei, though. bryans
computer, and josh's in la, made it simple.
on sunday i went to disneyland with josh. it was fun,
i had my picture taken with mickey, and i got my mouse
ears. keep an eye on the mail, oma and opa!!! i
would have to say that the new space mountain is the
wickedest thing i've ever experienced in my life. it
was the last ride i went on...and if it'dbeen the
first, i would never have see anything else of
disneyland. i'd have lined up for that all day. so
cool. its an indoor roller coaster, in the pitch
black, with stars all around, and crazy music, goes
super fast and spirals and its just awesome. you come
out of it blinking and so giddy.
anyways, went straight to the LAX airport from
disneyland...stood in about 3 separate USA homeland
security lines, xrays, etc...until i was allowed to
check in. by this point, 260 other passengers had
checked in ahead of me, so no window or aisle seats
left. 14hour flight, crammed between two people i
didn't know. ew.
but fun. they give you a hot towel to start, then
dinner....then each seat has a tv on the seat back in
front of you, and on the armrest is this controller
that clicks out so you can hold it...you have choices
of 30 different movies and an equal # of tv shows,
that you can start, stop, fst fwd, rwnd as you like.
also tons of music...current stuff...blackeyd peas,
coldplay x&y, whatever you wnt. you can create a
playlist????!!!!! for yourself and then, finally...you
can turn the controller sideways and use it to play
your choice of about 50 differnt video games. so
cool. i watched mr and mrs smith, then 2 episodes of
csi, then played tetris. ahha.
fun.
then breakfast, and any snacks and wine etc you want.
cool.
so. landed in taipei, the airport is spotless and
sparkly. retrieved my bag, went in search of a bus
ticket. easier said than done as they speak so little
english, and as you know, my chinese is rather rusty.
but i got the job done, and ended up at the taipei
main station waiting for bryan. there was a bit of a
mixup, he didn't realize where i'd been dropped
off..but we found each other eventually. this station
is the size of union station in toronto, easily. and
chinese. so...hard to figure out. he had his scooter
there and we went back to his place, went out for
breakfast (odd to hear him speak chinese!) and now
he's at work. he'll be back at 10pm, its about 11am
now.
ok, thats it so far. and taipei? millions of 7-11s,
on every corner....and about 7 billion thousand
million scooters. honestly, you go through an
intersection and the traffic waiting at the red is a
SEA of scooters...the equivalent of 4 lanes of
traffic, at least 15 car lengths back. throw in a
couple of buses, looking for all the world like
islands amidst all the wee scooter folk, and you've
got one odd sight.
k. later.
