Vietnam ~ Hue & Danang (#7e)

This was taken 'inside' the Forbidden Purple City. The complex was almost completely ruined by American bombing during the war, and now the empty land is used mostly to grow veggies and such. The structure in the background houses a theatre, where I saw some traditional Vietnamese fan and lantern dances.

This was taken 'inside' the Forbidden Purple City. The complex was almost completely ruined by American bombing during the war, and now the empty land is used mostly to grow veggies and such. The structure in the background houses a theatre, where I saw some traditional Vietnamese fan and lantern dances.

Just inside the walls of the Citadel in Hue, there were elephant rides on offer. Such an odd sight....behind me, there are about 4 other elephants hanging out in a field, as well. FYI, the entrance to the Forbidden Purple City (or what remains of it) can barely be seen off in the distance.

China Beach ~ just outside of Danang. It was very cold and windy when we were there, so we only stopped for a few minutes to take some pictures. But despite the weather, the beach to the right of this photo was packed with picnic-ing families, dogs playing in the surf, and couples snuggled into blankets to watch the waves.
