Surfing the Northern Beaches

AUSTRALIA | Monday, 22 January 2007 | Views [686]

...is my favourite past time here in Australia.  I’ve surfed all the way up the coast to Noosa, and I always loved coming back to my old ‘home break’ of Mona Vale.  The water is warm and clear, the beach break is steep and peaky, and it’s not crowed like our San Diego home breaks.  Our mate Paul took us out second day in town, and while small (3m on sets), it was great to be back out in the water here.  The place is magical...  surfing and water sports are part of every day life, and embedded within families.  Each beach town has a surf lifesaving club where kids learn all about ocean survival from an early age.  There’s training on the beach, and heaps of competitions... a super healthy lifestyle which we could easily adapt to every day!  Many beaches have natural ocean pools that fill as the tide rises, and cleans out at low tide.  It’s a water girls dream!
