After leaving Golden Bay (about 2 weeks ago from today)Jeanna and I hitchhiked back to Nelson for a night. We had lunch with the man who picked us up and his 85 year old father and then we spent the night with the Rainey family (Jo, Jude, Annie, Libby and Tom). We met Annie in Wellington and have now stayed at her parents home twice, and couldn't feel more blessed to know such a family. We had a big bbq with them and shared many laughs. The family has adopted us as family and Jo, the father reminds me so much of my dad, I think they would be best friends. It's so nice when the world seems to become your family and you find yourself in a home on the other side of the world feeling at home, almost as if you're with your own family (especially when the dad tells the same jokes as mine)!
The next morning we hitched to Rai Valley, a town of about 100 people and we waited in the towns restraunt/grocery store/movie rental for the mail carrier to deliver us to our next wwoofing spot in Ngaio Bay. The mail carrier only comes once a week so we made sure we got there early to wait for her.
We drove for almost 3 hours on an unpaved windy road ontop of cliffs dropping to the sea delivering mail to the few souls who are blessed to live in this part of the world. We saw 3 cars the entire days and 100s of sheep and cows, often times having to stop the car and wait for them to cross the road. As we drove on the scenery became more and more magnificent and the excitement in me rose for where we'd be staying for the next 2 weeks.
