After asparagus picking we said good bye to G (our car) Cat, Katie and Adrian. We stood beside the mighty mountain with our thumbs in the air and our packs on our backs waiting for a ride to Wellington (the capital of NZ and the bottom of the N. Island). The kindest people picked us up and carried us along. The last one being Simon and his dog Serius. We shared sushi with Simon and he gave us a quick tour of Wellington and allowed us to rest in his home where we met his beautiful wife Ava as we waited for Kyle, our couch surfing friend to get off work.
We stayed in Wellington for 4 nights, surfed Kyles couch for 2 nights and enjoyed his stories as he has spent many years traveling the world on his bike. We spent 1 night with Simon and his family and another night with Annie, Emma and Robbie, 3 other couch surfers we met and connected to instantly. At their home we had a dress-up potluck with some of their friends and other couch surfers that were in the area. Emma had a huge box of dress up clothes and I was a race car driver with tiger ears for the night.
We left Wellington on the ferry to the South Island where we'll spend the next month wwoofing before traveling and exploring the wild beauty of the south. I fell asleep on the ferry and awoke to a land that I thought one would only discover in their dreams. I was in a sound, surrounded by rugged green mountains lined with trees darting into the blue water below. The sky was soft and filled with whispy clouds that matched the tired state of my mind. I was overwhelmed by this beauty and wish that my words or pictures could capture this land.
