Asparagus Picking

USA | Monday, 16 November 2009 | Views [148]

After leaving Coromandel I journeyed down the country in our new free car with Jeanna, Katie, Cat and Adrian.  We spent 5 days picking asparagus and finding places to sleep each night.  When we arrived we went to Opal Springs campground and hot springs and they told us that we were too dirty to camp there (I'm honesty not that dirty mom, just had dirt on my feet and shine in my hair) so we went to a church and they let us sleep, cook and play there for the night.  We acted like 12 year olds playing hide and go seek and ninja destruction for most of the night.  It was fun.  The next several nights we camped by rivers, slept in a cottage of someone Cat met hitch-hiking, slept in the car one night sitting up and in a ladies home that was friends with one of our co-workers.

Asparagus picking was a good job but I didn't really walk away with any money because we only picked for about 1-2 hours each day starting at 630 am and finishing by 8am, leaving us with long days and nights to hike, sit in hot springs and go to the beach.
