A short run, my now standard breakfast of plantains, avacado & eggs & I was all set for my first actual dive.
We were on a large boat with two other dive groups & left just after 8am for a 1.5hr journey to Turneffe North. As well as Francesca, Michael & I we also had a Brazilian, Pedro join us. Now at least I had a dive buddy :)
Our first dive was the West Point & it surprised me how nervous I was. Out instructor didn't instill me with great confidence & none of us really felt too sure we knew what we were doing. We all descended fairly quickly to around 38ft trying to equalizes long the way down. It was hard trying to remember to breathe, float, sink, equalize, read the dive computer and take in what was happening. It was pretty cool hanging at the bottom but trying to maintain my depth was challenging. I couldn't seem to sink and floated straight back up to the top at one stage! Turned out I needed some more weights & to just try & relax :)
We saw some amazing reef life, a super ugly Moray eel & plenty of pretty fish. My second dive attempt was much better too!
Another glorious sunset at the split & then Etienne, my French Canadian roommate & I headed for cocktails & dinner with Marc & Eliska. A really nice evening topped off with hammock stargazing on the jetty just out front of the hostel. Bloody good life isn't it?
