Tonight's the night the world begins again (except for Keera, for whom it began yesterday)

Oludeniz

Saturday 29th APril

We continued on to Oludeniz from Saklikent Gorge, where Dee, the medical posse (an aside here, I’m calling them this because they’re all in the medical profession and talked about it lots and lots. Not complaining, I found it interesting because I’ve never been exposed to it before.) and I got off. I planned on staying 3 nights in Oludeniz and then two in Fethiye. We checked in at Oba Camp (Heidi, Dee and I sharing) and then went out to dinner at Lazy Dazy’s (lol) – I had a very nice moussaka. We had planned to go back and play cards but we just ended up talking and then turning in, especially because Dee had to leave on the 8am bus the next day. She is cabin crew for Quantas and only had a short time off.

Sunday 30th April Today the medical posse and I decided to go for a walk to get a good view of the lagoon and coast before hitting the beach. Little did we (or at least little did I) know it would turn into a 3hr odyssey up a mountain! We walked to the ghost village of Kaya Koyu (17th C), the walk was challenging in places (especially in thongs, which decided to break in the descent, luckily I semi-fixed them), but it was well worth it. The village was spread across the hillside and looked really eerie. We had a lunch of potato and mince pancakes made by the local women and cooked in an open fire oven, and then we caught a dolmus back to Oludeniz.

Instead of going out for dinner we decided to have a beach picnic. We bought a spread of feta, biscuits, aubergine, dolmatis, cheddar, yoghurt and nuts at the supermarket and then had a sunset picnic on the beach complete with lots of wine and local dogs shagging right next to us – initially very amusing but just weird after almost an hour!

We all got a little tipsy and then because Dean was still hungry we ended up goin to Lazy Dazy’s (again) and having yet another bottle of wine (not as good as the mulberry wine). The waiter there did a ‘magic’ trick on Heidi and I. He gave us each and empty beer bottle and got us to rub them and them our faces – of course they had black stuff on them which transferred to out faces!

Monday 1st May Heidi, Dean and Roz left today for Fethye as their gullet cruise leaves tomorrow. I am staying one more night in Oludeniz and then moving on to Fethiye as well.

I had such a lazy day after packing my stuff and moving to a cheaper room. I spent the entire day (11-6!) at the beach reading and sunbathing. I almost got landed on by paragliders, they were interesting to watch but occasionally a little too close for comfort! I had an early dinner and then did a stint on the internet. I started to pub ad’s on the gumtree website to a job back in the UK.
