Aussie's not Australians!

Over the past few months we have come to realize that people here love to "cuten" and shorten a lot of words. I say "cuten" b/c if you were to try to have a full conversation with all the shortened words you would sound like you were talking "baby talk". Give it a try, here are some that are used often:

Avro = afternoon

Woolies = Woolworths (Like our Loblaws)

presies = presents

Chrissy = Christmas

NYE = New Years Eve

Brollie = umbrella

Taw = Thanks

And get this.....they claim that it isn't what it obviously seems to be but i say if it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck...it's a freaking duck! But they have a place here thats huge.....has lots of discounts....has the same colours and logos and floor plan of the stores in North America. They have a store that is called "Big W" (pronounced Big Dubba-yooo) and they swear its not in any way a Walmart. Uh-huh.......

G'day!!!! ( = good day)

Interesting. I'm sure that I could teach them some new vocabulary words, the ones that I am famous for or infamous? Merry Xmas to you both.
