Perito Moreno Glacier, Argentina

One of the few advancing glaciers left in the world, Perito Moreno stretches over 30 kilometers through a valley carved through the stone and cutting through two mountains opening into a wide mouth into a river. It advances around 3 meters a day, which, on a daily basis causes glacial chunks the size of buildings to carve off into the river. The sound is thunderous, and the massive pieces bob and advance lazily down the river. The best time of day to go is in the afternoon, when the sun causes fissures and heat to crack off portions of the glacier. The rain and fog, with the icy wind moving over the face of the glacier added to the experience of the place, which I think, increased the appreciation of what we were seeing. There are few places left in the world where nature is still wild and untouched.
