Ushuaia and Tierra Del Fuego, Argentina

Ushuaia is the Southern most city in the world in Southern Patagonia. It's a port town on the Beagle Channel. The setting is beautiful and rugged, surrounded by snowy, glacier peaks and the small islands dotting the Beagle Channel. The area including Tierra Del Fuego truly feels like the end of the world. I visited in the high summer season, and it could have been the weather of our winter in the East Coast. Wind and rain were a daily occurence, and the choppy Beagle Channel with the hazy coast of Isla Navarino added to the appearance of a far flung place away from anything familiar. The trekking in Tierra Del Fuego was equally beautiful, deep azul lakes fed directly from glacial melt and huge chunks of ice floating in the water from pieces that have calved off of the glacier were easily seen. This was my first experience in Patagonia, and it has only become better, more beautiful and more dramatic.
