It's been a little while since I've updated because I've been getting hammered with weather and I didn't want to write a blog when I was tired and angry. I've been following Rte 90 West from Tallahassee all the way here, more or less, to New Orleans and it's had a pretty good shoulder the whole way. It's taken me along the coast of Alabama and Mississippi and into the bayou in Louisiana. It was a nerve wracking couple hours riding through Mobile, which included such fun activities as riding over a big ass suspension bridge and being detoured onto the interstate for several miles. Other than that adventure the traffic has been okay. Off the bike the people have been awesome. My biggest hope starting on this trip, was that I would go through small, rural towns and be closer to people and really see my country up close. Every time I stop someone wants to talk to me, I've had a couple people buy me coffee or water or wish me luck. People have been really friendly and hospitable. A husband and wife and their kids pulled off the road while I was riding through Ocean Springs, Mississippi and took me home with them and fed me and set me up for the night. So far, that has been the best encounter I've had on my trip. They were both artists, and very interesting and showed me all their work and the business they run out of their house. The weather has been against me for the most part, but the people I've met along the way, and the towns I've ridden through have made this trip very worth it. I'll take a few days here in New Orleans to rest before I continue my trek West.
