Meandering through Zimbabwe and Botswana

ZIMBABWE | Wednesday, 17 June 2009 | Views [440] | Comments [1]

Sorry I haven't updated in awhile but it's hard to fit in writing blogs when I'm busy quad biking in the desert.  Zimbabwes a mess right now.  Very little public transport opportunities, most businesses are shut down.  I took the train(my only option) from Vic Falls to Bulawayo.  I wanted to go further into the country but as a solo traveller with no vehicle it's impossible.  Zimbabweans are great people though, well educated, really laid back and friendly even given the circumstances.  I went from Bulawayo to Francistown Botswana.  I only intended to pass through Botswana so I only spent 2 or 3 days in the country passing through to Namibia.  The Okavango Delta is in Botswana, but it's ridiculously expensive.  I had to skip over it because of my budget.  I don't think many people could afford chartering a plane to fly to the middle of the Delta, than stay at a lodge for 100 bucks a night, and pay to ride around on a canoe in the interior.  I'm not "chartering" any planes unless I get to jump out of them.  And I'm definately not paying 100 bucks a night for a room unless I get an inclusive personal harem.  Well, I would at least compromise for some really nice italian food instead I guess.

I heard on the radio the other day, that the Annual rate of inflation in Zimbabwe is 3,000%. I seriously not joking. It's really sad.
