On the way from rome, decided to stop for the day at siena, tuscany. Got up at 6am to catch a 7am train, only to find that we missed that connection because our train was delayed, which meant we could have caught the later train and slept in...damn italian trains. luckily a nice italian lady helped us..she spoke italian and english, but got a little confused and rambled onto us in italian..not exactly sure what she told us, but she was very helpful.
Anyway, finally arrived in siena around lunch time. Found a little bakery and had pizza slices and shortbreads for lunch. Siena is beautiful and very tuscanish..not sure if thats a word, the streets were cobbled and winding and the windows were all covered in shutters. Siena is famous for its cathedral, which was amazing. a little freaky as around the roof were 101 previous popes heads, statues looking down at us. Siena also has a huge town square with a huge bell tower in the middle. I tried panforte, which is a italian sweet with nuts, spices and all held together with a kind of thick sticky jelly, was very nice.
After siena we caught the train to florence, and arrived at our hostel by 6pmish. The hostel is a brand new hostel and only cost us 10euro last night cz of a special opening deal..yoou can still smell the paint. its an awesome hostel with a cheap restuarant with good food and brekkie, huge rooms with good showers, free internet, washing machines, kitchen, bar and an INDOOR POOL! dan and i are about to go for a swim..
had a big night as the hostel had a green bacardi party, we wore fluro green wigs and danced away.
