Stripes and Rigatino

Today was a great day! After school, we went with Chiara to the place to get friends to do our exchanges with. People who are here write their names, what their nationality is, and what languages they speak and want to improve. They are all put on a board and then you can go get numbers and call them to meet for a coffee or something to speak English/Italian. We hopefully found some nice ones but I think we will all do it together sometime! Then, we came home and I had my favorite meal again. Kristi and I laid in our beds most of the day and read while everyone napped. We decided to wear dresses to the pop concert so we all looked really cute. We met my teacher Paola at the Duomo and got on the most crowded bus of my life. I could barely breathe there were so many people. We went to this pizza place way down on our side of the Arno near the outskirts of town. I got Paola’s recommendation of Focaccina with Rigatino. Basically, rigatino is this salty bacon from Tuscany, and it was fantastic. It was kind of weird though because it was just foccacia pizza looking bread with salty bacon on it. I really liked it but Morgan got it and didn’t like it at all. Bread and salty bacon, pretty much me on a plate. Dinner was a lot of fun though because we got to practice our Italian in a friendly setting! Paola is really nice and since she is our teacher, obviously really helpful. After dinner, we went to a concert called “C’È Sempre Un Fiore” which means “There Is Always A Flower.” Paola is friends with the lead singer Frederico so that is why we went to the concert in the first place. When we got to the place, we sat down and saw the cutest boy in a striped sweater, and his friend Mr. White Jacket boy. Stripes and Mr. White Jacket were just hanging out by the stage and we thought they might be in the band, but then the concert was going to start and they didn’t go on stage. Sad! However, Morgan did get a good picture of Stripes but we’re pretty sure he saw her. Oh well, at least we have a god picture! Back to the concert, it was really amazing. The band sang a few U2 songs, “My Way” and “New York, New York” along with a lot of Italian songs I really liked. After the concert, we got to meet some of the band members and Paola’s friends. We also got to stare at Stripes and White Jacket so that was fun! Paola’s friends wanted to go for gelato so we got a ride with one of them Francesco. He was hilarious and we tried to speak Italian to him which was great practice! We went up to Piazza Michelangelo which was perfect because it is right by our apartment. I had some amazing lemon/strawberry gelato AND we saw Stripes again. How weird! The girls tried to get me to go talk to him but I didn’t really want to THAT much! We decided not to go out so after the gelato was finished we just came home and went to bed because it was around midnight. I DID have a grilled cheese before bed though and it was delicious. AND Mom is mailing my camera tomorrow.
