The Evolution of Norfolk Island

My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited

1 - Hope. A stark reminder of what the convicts built and lived in 1847 Kingston, Norfolk Island; they left this harsh land in 1855 to relocate to New South Wales. Some had served their time and being freed, taking up land locally or returned to England. The stone was quarried and cut locally with a nearby kiln burning the limestone to make the mortar.
