First day of spring

USA | Friday, 21 March 2008 | Views [589] | Comments [5]

I'm working outside on a beautiful sunny day in North Carolina. It's the first day of spring and the temperature is a perfect 20 degrees (approx. 68 celsius). Cleaning out the leavings of the fall/winter season, gathering some fire wood, planting kale on the slate of activities for the day. It's our 6th day here, and we'll have a couple of days off coming up. Hoping to stop by and see my cousin Joanne and her family, including newborn Landon Henry, two other sons, and husband, Steve. They live in Chapel Hill proper while we are in the rural district. Nice neighbours around. We are staying with an academy award winning radical (Michael Moore was not the first)named Barbara Trent. Her Panama Deception won the award, but she has gone on to document other political scenarios, cover ups, tragedies, etc. as well as share her skills and her passion with many students through her http://www.empowermentproject.org/

We have at our disposal a huge number of films for possible viewing. In addition to an outstanding documentary collection, Barbara has all of the films of the year come to her in her capacity as a voting member of the Academy. What has really made a huge difference to us, though, is not this huge library of films, but rather regular and consistent access to the internet. What had been a huge backlog that I had been carrying around with me is essentially clearing up, vis. this updated blog...

We have stopped by here for a couple of weeks to help Barbara out with her farmstead. It's very timely as it is planting time, and Barbara had gotten behind in a number of projects due to a head on automobile accident which she suffered in the fall.

HAPPY EASTER! You two are having a good time by the sounds of it, and enjoying good weather. Still a bit of winter here but the snow is going. Miss seeing you two at the store but your trip is well worth that. Take care and enjoy, bye for now, Donna

Hello Frances and Dave
I would love to be planting kale in North Caroline in 20 degree weather! We have all survived winter - today is +6 and I am picking up twigs in the garden and looking for sprouts - there are none. Glenn and I travelled twice to our favourite city - Amsterdam - and are now planning a trip to Helsinki in June for a conference. We will try to fit in some time in Ottawa and London Eng. on the way. It is alway wonderful to hear from you - what an adventure - and well done on the blogging! Love Kath

How lovely for you, your adventure; How will you ever come back to Wpg.? Mabey you won't.I'm still quite blown away by the computer and what you can do this bit of communication technology.I'm very clumsy with it,but never mind. It's snowing softly right now.I quite like it.I do not like the heat.We had a lovely Easter dinner with our children...

Well, this first season of travel has gone by quickly, at least it seems that way to me. Sounds like you guys are having a very good time. Snow should hopefully be gone up here soon and the bike back out.

Thanks for sharing, it is so good to see what you have been up to. I checked out the empowerment project, it looks great! My partner went to school for film and will love to hear about this.
