I started the week with a two day tour of the Great Ocean Road. The road was painstakingly built by the servicemen who returned after WWI and offers spectacular views. I was taking a risk doing it at this time of year, as ths stretch of coast is not known for perfect weather, even in the height of summer. Amazingly your prayers worked - the weather held out and it was glorious sunshine and blue skies most of the time. I still didn't venture into the water, though. I'm not that brave.
I did splash out in other respects and took a short helicopter ride over the 12 Apostles. I hadn't budgeted for it, but since the weather was so clear it seemed like a worthwhile expense. It was well worth it for the view but it didn't last nearly long enough.
I arrived in Adelaide on Wednesday and immediately found it to be, like so many of the smaller cities and towns in Aus, incredibly friendly and accommodating. I was told the weather was soon to turn bad, but I decided to risk a trip into the Adelaide Hills on Thursday. We did a little bit of everything, saw some Aussie animals, did some bush walking, and tasted some South Australian wine and cheese. It was ideal for me since I'd done all that already in other states. Luckily the weather held out for me all day, but my luck seems to have at last run out and the rain I was promised has finally arrived. They keep telling me it's good when it rains, but I'm having difficulty finding the necessary enthusiasm. I can't help but notice that everywhere looks like Glasgow when you're hiding under an umbrella. I feel a lot of time in museums coming my way...
