It's already tomorrow in Australia... Carry On Backpacking

Onward and Upward

After four interesting and fun filled months it's now time for me to move on from Tassie. I finished up at work last week. When I left my former job in the Weege they gave me the wonderfully generous gift of a digital camera which has been extremely useful on this trip. When I left Hoggies they egged me. In fact, they turned me into a rocky road sundae. I had to be hosed down before I could go home, and even then I was still sticky and smelly and had little bits of coconut in my hair. It's apparently the custom to egg all the staff who leave, not just the cheeky Scottish girls, but if I'm completely honest as much as I like being one of the gang I like the digi camera custom a bit more. But they also gave me a beautifully put together photo album with pictures of everyone, a funny book which everyone signed and some of the girls wrote me letters which made me cry. I'd never have known when I started that I was going to miss so many of them so much after such a short time.

My last night in Hobart was memorable for a number of reasons. Firstly there were several hundred American sailors in town and secondly because I scored some free tickets to the hottest show in town, the Uni Revue. I can't think of a more entertaining last evening.

I've been incredibly lucky here. The generosity I've received from everyone, especially Mike, has been amazing. Hobart is a lovely town, but it's the people, their hospitality and kindness that I will keep in my heart. I'm very sad to be leaving them, but I know I'll be back.

For now it's off to Melbourne and Adelaide along the Great Ocean Road. Keep your fingers crossed I get some decent weather. A Glasgow style heatwave would be good.

Hey mate, safe onward journey, know you'll be sad to leave such a wonderful place (and a wonderful *host* and friend), but you've got lots more adventures ahead of you. Don't forget to keep us updated and send lots of photos and in return I'm sending you some sunshine from here......
