Adventure before dementia

Sweden - Stockholm

Explored the many islands that make up Stockholm on foot and by bike. Stunning old town made up of narrow cobbled lanes, palaces, churches, historic buildings and on a small island surrounded by water. Across the water from the old town is the garden island which is mostly parkland containing a number of museums. We visited the Vasamuseum which houses a complete 1628 wooden warship. Incredibly ornate and on a huge scale. Unfortunately it sunk on its maiden voyage in 1628 due to a design fault, it was too top heavy and unstable. It lay for over 300 years in the silt before it was excavated mostly intact in the 1960s. Really impressive to see and a fascinating museum. Also visited the history museum to learn about the Vikings and the medieval museum to look at the city in medieval times. Great few days in Stockholm, heading south today.
