My Scholarship entry - A 'place' I have visited
Peru | Monday, January 14, 2013 | 5 photos
Through the years, I have been fortunate enough to regularly travel around the world in the hopes of photographing unique cultural customs as well as native people, flora and fauna.
From bullfighting in the remote city of Cotabambas, Peru, to hunting with the Hadzabe tribe in Tanzania, local life and traditions never cease to inspire me. Being able to convey these unique moments through my photography, blog and in person has been a privilege of mine for over a decade. I firmly believe that sharing these experiences helps us become more accepting of others.
My passion for photography began while visiting post-apartheid South Africa where I lived with a local black family. I have since been able to share a wide variety of experiences through my photography, none of which were more consequential than my recent reportage on a medical eye-care mission to Cusco, Peru. The photographs told an important story of need and despair which helped to increase awareness for the basic medical needs that many of us take for granted.
My hope is that through winning this contest, I will be able to capture and communicate the beauty and spirit of Oman all the while experiencing a new culture.
