    The bull with the condor tied to its back eventually tires, at which point, the condor is untied and released hours later back into the surrounding mountains. The festivities however continue for the rest of the day, with displays of traditional bullfighting. by: cuibono Views[349] The bull, angered by the condor tied to it’s back, is eventually released and begins to buck around the ring in an attempt to free itself. The condor attempts maintain its balance with its incredible wingspan, often grazing the ground. by: cuibono Views[1109] The condor, one of the Gods of the Inca Empire trilogy represents Andean culture. Conversely, the bull represents the invading Spaniards. The ceremonial event is steeped in tradition and symbolic especially for indeginous Peruvians. by: cuibono Views[2605] A condor is captured in the nearby mountains several days leading up to the event. On the day of the event, the condor is blessed and paraded around the makeshift ring for all to see before being attached to a chosen raging bull by villagers. by: cuibono Views[395] A professional torero, invited to this unique event held yearly on Peru’s Independence day in the remote village of Cotabambas, begins to bullfight with bulls graciously donated by local villagers. Unlike similar events in Mexico and Spain, no bulls are actually hurt or killed and the event occurs in the town square as opposed to a stadium. by: cuibono Views[666]
