Planes, Trains, and Automobiles: one girl's quest to see the world

Here is a thought...

...all backpackers, no matter their age or nationality or length of trip, have a distinct smell. It's not dirt or body odor necessarily... it is just the smell of people who have been wearing the same clothes, surrounded by the same people every moment of every day for a very long time. Even if you are just starting your trip, your bunkmate at the hostel has been at it for three months and therefore it all blends into one smell.

I stopped by H&M today to buy two 5€ dresses in order to escape the smell for a little while. I chucked out half of my clothes (which I had been planning to do before I returned anyway) in favor of the odor-free garments. And I'm in a sleeper car on the train tonight (the reclining seats were all sold out) so I should be safe until I check into my hostel tomorrow night. It is a possible danger zone, but given that the hostel is booked solid for Wednesday night and therefore I will be sleeping in the airport, I just *may* be able to avoid picking it up again. But then again, I may end up smelling like airport. It seems to be a lose-lose situation here... Keep your fingers crossed for me anyway :-)
