The BIG Trip

Schanze = Funky Town

GERMANY | Wednesday, 26 October 2011 | Views [519]

A slow-ish start again for Bray – though Roni got up a wee bit earlier for a jog around some of the lake before we returned to the Schanze on the hunt for winter shoes/boots for Roni and gloves for Bray. Her jandals are all good and canvas shoes more hole than shoe now so in need of something to keep the wet and cold out once we hit the UK and Bray has had cold hands in German temperatures, let alone UK snow!  Many, many options but somehow they were always lacking Roni’s size and/or exorbitantly priced so looking was all we did. Had a great walk and saw much of the neighbourhood, good graf, yarn bombing, community gardening, winterdome amusement park with huge roller coasters and another look at the flak tower. So all good.

After this we caught the U3 loop hopping on and off to see famous sights such as the Rauthaus and St Nikolai Memorial to name a few. Eventually we took the entire U3 loop on the way back to Munsburg – we like Hamburg!!

A mish then to the supermarket with bags of glass recycling to purchase dinner supplies for homemade burger nite tonight. Neta & Tatu (who we met on our second night in Hamburg) were planning on joining the four of us for kai and to see our road trip photos...this necessitated the chopping of MANY wedges which were then seasoned and put in the oven to get cooking in time.

Unfortunately they both called in sick so the burger joy was shared with Simon & Maren and the mountain of wedges was consumed in something like a team effort...Bray having the lion’s share – even he was potatoe-d out by the end of it! The burgers were a big hit even though they weren’t game to add all the things NZers do such as pineapple. Enjoyed by all before a few games of cards, chats about the rest of the week and Berlin weekend planning before bed.
