Currently we are sitting on the rooftop of our guesthouse with a cold beer as INTENSE thunder and lightning crash around us - VERY cool.
This morning we thought this could be the day of the trek that never happened...an 8am pickup was over an hour late and we were getting pretty :-(
Even our tasty tasty roti breakfast couldn't lift our spirits.
But....then....at 9.15am the minivan arrived!
The day was full on from then on...drove into the mountains to an elephant camp, rode the elephants through the jungle for an hour (two baby ones came for the walk and their antics + squeaking were classic!) We then fed them some bananas to say 'thank you' before driving to the river.
Bray was co-captain of our bamboo raft (with Kom our raftsman) and got to stand up and use a pole! The other three of us sat on the semi-sumberged raft getting VERY wet. Bray loved it and Kom was splashing us and joking the whole time. We saw a snake too - fortunately it was ashore and we were afloat!
Bray even got to stay on the raft when we all had to get off for a more rocky rapid - spoilt!
After that we had lunch then drove to a Karen village - amazing weaving and cool to see the way they build their houses and hear a bit about their culture. We walked from there to Mae Wang Waterfall. We both hopped in for a dip - and almost got swept quickly away in the powerful current! Then back on the track and through the jungle to the minivan.
Farewells over - we had a Swiss family, Indonesian family + friend and a French man in our group - then time to hit the market for kai.
On the rooftop - watermelon, roti, rambutan (sp?), kebabs and a couple of little puffy yum bread things to finish. YUM. The rain arriving has dropped the temperature and the lightning/thunder show is definitely keeping us entertained.
Over and out.
