Today was another busy day with Peru Mission. We welcomed a physician from New Zealand that is here working with us for a month in the clinic in Winchanazao. Welcome David O’Byrne! You may recall an earlier blog where I mentioned meeting a doctor on a bus in Guatemala. Well, he is now in Peru. He arrived today, Wednesday the 29th, and we went to the clinic and got him settled in right away and seeing patients. This afternoon, we went to Clementina and did a medical campaign there. I was able to go along and assist. We set up shop in the church there, which has grown from a thatch hut into a brick building. Dale Ellison took patients in and triaged them along with Whitney, then we had three physicians that could see the patients. And finally, I was the pharmacist. It was incredible! While waiting for the patients, I played with the kids from the area. They were so precious! Clementina is a squatter’s community where the people have claimed the land and are living there in the desert on the outskirts of Trujillo. It was truly a moving afternoon to see these families and especially the children living in such poverty, yet more content than many people I have known. What a humbling reminder that true contentment is found in our relationship with the Lord. I especially enjoyed my time with the children. As with all children, they loved my camera. They took a ton of pictures with it (which some are really good for a seven year old being the photographer!!) and allowed me to take several of them. I even allowed them to take it out of the church and into the community where they took pictures of their friends and their neighborhood. Be sure to check out the pictures in the gallery.
