In less than 72 hours, we will be in the air and on our way!! Yet time is creeping by! Can it go any slower? And why does it go so fast once the trip has started? Am I in some sort of twisted time warp?
I just finished printing out the confirmation for our hotels in Prague and Paris, airport transfers, tickets for flight from Prague to Rome, my world nomads insurance policy, all the important travel documents I'll need. I've made copies of all my pertinent documents and put them in envelopes for various persons that will remain here stateside and then also for myself and the chosen few travelling companions that will carry them for me over there. And now all I can think is. . . how awesome will it be Saturday morning to walk along Charles Bridge, wander through Old Town, go see the Jewish cemetary, catch the astronomical clock striking on the hour, visit Prague Castle, and just soak up the culture that abounds in Prague?? Oh how I love Prague. I cannot wait to return.
My first visit to Prague was 1994 when I did my first jaunt of backpacking in Europe. I returned in 1999 on a second trip from Budapest to Paris. It changed so much in those 5 years. I cannot imagine how much more it has changed in the last 9, but what makes it special to me (the bridge, the castle, lesser town, etc.) will be exactly the same! If only I could click my heels three times and be there or wiggle my nose and poof! appear on the Bridge! Less than 72 hours. . . surely it will get here sooner or later! and then I'll brace for the opposite time warp as it speeds by while we traverse Europe with a backpack, a map and our sense of adventure!
