    Kids of Varanasi, the world’s oldest city and one of India’s holiest destinations, have to learn to fend for themselves early in their lives. This child, and hundreds like him, start haggling with tourists, offering them “best price” from early morning and into late evening. by: alina_pro Views[352] “Hello, madam, hello! You buy this to remember your father, your mother, your brother, your sister. I have fire. You put in the water…” her brother pitches. “Only five Rupee,” he recites what seems to be the mantra for Varanasi’s omnipresent invisible children. by: alina_pro Views[365] The whole city of Varanasi is a gigantic bazaar – everyone is peddling something. This little girl was making “donas” – bunches of marigold and roses with an earthen lamp, all arranged in a leafy bowl. by: alina_pro Views[334] This time, the tourist said NO to the kid's offer. “You broke my heart, sir!” the boy says . From my India trip, I remember the hot weather and food, the warm colors and people, and the pervasive materialism and spirituality.
