Kids of Varanasi, the world’s oldest city and one of India’s holiest destinations, have to learn to fend for themselves early in their lives. This child, and hundreds like him, start haggling with tourists, offering them “best price” from early morning and into late evening.

“Hello, sir, hello! You buy this to remember your father, your mother, your brother, your sister. I have fire. You put in the water…” the boy pitches. “Only five Rupee,” he recites what seems to be the mantra for Varanasi’s omnipresent invisible children.
