Couples and tent erection

AUSTRALIA | Thursday, 20 March 2008 | Views [1822]

Our tent!!

Our tent!!

Is it just us, or does putting up a tent throw all of a couple’s communication problem’s into high relief?

The best thing about camping is sitting down with a drink after completing the construction phase. Then, quite comfortably, sun glasses discreetly lowered, criticize the next couple (or group of can in hand young men) who must go through the same communication struggles you have just survived.

Ahh, sweet nomadic life.

If you have tips on your successful tent erection, please feel free to leave a comment. I’m interested in what you have to say.

Personally

It’s the second time Albert and I have pitched this tent. (yes I used the term ‘erection’ as a deliberate and teenager antic of arousing your initial interest and now I will lure you in further to communication issues – sorry ----- not )

The first time I had to bite my lip more than once. The phrase that wants to pop out of my mouth the most is ‘What do you think you’re doing’, quickly followed by ‘are you stupid? Or are all Spanish like this?’ (this is doubly insulting since he’s a Catalonian)

Anyway, to the success of the story… the second time was MUCH smoother, and we seemed to have ‘tasks’ we do naturally.

I also have to remember all of the time NOT to criticize. To go slower and not be ‘task orientated’. If we are tenting/camping, then Albert has turned into ‘having a relaxing time’ mode… so, the whole tent pitching goes into that category… if I think of ways to make it more fun, rather than efficient, I think the whole task goes a lot smoother.

What do you think?
