Travelling in style in VA

Travelling in style in VA

I almost managed to write another blog within a week - hope you are all proud!

I have had the most crazy and fun week since I last blogged. I continued my road trip into Charlottesville, VA (home of the University of Virginia) where I said farewell to my friend Neo (sniff...). This was the beginning of one of the largest weekends of my life!

Thursday afternoon had me waiting for Davar, Birney and Woody to drive in from DC. I managed to attract the most strange person to come and sit next to me in the bagel shop in possibly the whole of Virginia and after some very interesting conversations regarding Obama, the youth of today, Australia and a large range of conspiracy theories, my knight in shining armour (Woody) came a rescued me and swiftly took me off to the pub for a beer! The drinking did not stop there... Basically when we wern't at a pub drinking good beer, or a winery tasting good wine and eating amazing cheese or a restaurant eating delicious meals we were driving around in a convertible, swimming at big lakes or watching the horses race by - heaven!

On Sunday I caught a lift back to DC with Woody, Davar and Birney and went to stay with Liz who I lived with at Wesley for a semester. I spent 5 nights in DC and did all of the touristy things like the white house, national mall, lincoln memorial, capitol hill and georgetown water front. I also managed to get lost in a park in the middle of the city with Liz (Liz's flatmate) and Jack, find Pandas, otters and zebras at the zoo, get lost on the metro and end up in ghetto land and experience hashing (google it... basically lots of running and drinking of beer).

Now I am at Jim and Twinks in NY after a quick tour of the city this afternoon and am super super excited because I get to see Katie and Alice tomorrow in Canadia!

Will keep you posted on the next adventures in the land of the maple leaf...

Hi Zoezy,

I have a huge apology to make to you regarding my absence of emails but sincerely I have really only just come up for air today after never ending months of food, feasting, farting and many sleepless nights!!

Survived that crazy weekend of the 28th March with all those weddings and actually when we finally got down to executing them it was all a breeze. Just a hellava lot of food in the coolroom and fine tuning of vehicles, and replacing staff who had committed to the date months before, then.. NOT WRITTEN IT IN THEIR DIARY (or got a better offer) and had to be replaced, ( a constant occupational hazzard that goes with this job!) Anyway, everyone fed and happy, and my bank balance looked decidedly healthy for a while there..... then Mark and I had a honeymoon in New Zealand....apart, well..
we had a wonderful night in chch together with old friends of mine then borrowed their car and drove up to Quartz Hill station where Colin and Hillary Guild threw us a dinner party, lovely night then wlaked around Hillary's amazing garden with the snow capped mountains (covered in fresh snow) behind them, said hi to the dear ones, not really interested in the old cook as is the middle of the rut, then back to Chch where Mark flew off to dunedin to catch up with Barney Bambrick to fish (not very successfully) for a week and I went to queenstown and had the weekend with Cousin Maryann Cameron. Had a lovely couple of days walking the Routeburn track, stunning, watched a crazy film about a couple of lesbian twin sisters with a comedy act, hilarious fun in a little tiny cinema in arrowtown, best meal in years in little restaurant down the road later and then went and kicked up my heals with an old boyfriends (and his wife)in Auckland. Had a lovely day out on his yaught before they put me on a ferry across to the Coriamadel Peninsular where I had a couple of days in a very stunning "batch" with my old mate Karen (who ran the ski lodge the year before I did down near methven long before you were born!! Nother lovely night in auckland before a very early cheap flight home to Sydney and straight back into it.
Had a wedding that weekend then our wedding the next.
All went well. Girls looked divine, flowers were fabulous, Ron's food very yummo and Goomie managed to walk me to the alter and say all the right things like " I do" when it came to who gives this waomen etc, even though he can't remember it today and constantly asks me when is he going to do his bit in the church. Poor goomie. Granmere looked fantastic and Richard PB had a wonderful dig at her during his speech that left us all in hysterics. Mark looked very handsome, has managed to keep of the 10kg (as have I!!!) and vowing to keep going. Was just a lovely weekend except for your absence but so glad you seem to be having such a blast. Will put up some photos when we receive them.
Had 5 functions the week after the wedding and 2 last weekend so really haven't had a moment to spare and looking forward to you coming home to help out..
finally got a contract from syney Uni for rent on the kitchens out of term time, yeehah (and they didn't include the term time even though we are doing outside catering then (which saved me about 5 grand). Loads of work coming in, could spend all day every day in the office, Ron happy, Alain, Brett and Nic (chefs) all getting weekend work, and Michelle out of it. she and I had words and she has gone off in high dudgeon ( don't know how to spell that) but kinda releived as she was been a real pain in the bum . don't know why I put up with her bad moods for 15 years!

Mark up in KL this week, flat out - has 15 countries "going live"on the 6th June so up to his neck in it but back on friday. Missing him muchly. Was great seeing Migs, your Mum and Craig - I do like that man- and all the others - think everyone had a great time. Starting to ramble must go to bed. Love you blogs and love you too.

Travel safely,

Old aunty and Mark. xxxxx
