Red Shoe Diary

serenaded by accordian

ECUADOR | Wednesday, 12 October 2011 | Views [392]

Papa plays the accordian, since childhood, so this evening we were serenaded over dinner by tunes from around the world. Up beat tunes from various south American countries, including the Argentinian tango, followed by a sad tune accompanied by mama singing. It was truly touching to see him lost in his music; his foot beating out the beat, body bending and straightening with the notes, fingers gliding over the keys and his eyes either closed or focused on a point far, far away. There is something nostalgic about the sound of a piano accordian, even with the up beat tunes a soulful world is conjured; for me, Paris at night, gentle rainfall, the voice of Edith Piaf; tonight it was family, friends and the lost world of life as it was.
