The streets of Kendal are full of small alleys and side-street passage-y things that lead off into pretty gardens owned by ugly people who glared at me.

One of those gate-in-the-path things, counter-balanced by a stone on a chain so it closes once ye walk through. They first invented the automatic gate system about four hundred years ago at some supermarket in Manchester. Tesco probably. Notice the signpost that says 'Public Footpath'. It should read 'someones paddock, private property, feck arf'

The old mill that's been converted into a theatre/arts center/bar/other bar/pizza joint. My hostel in Kendal joined onto this but I never got the chance to explore it or watch a movie at the cinema because I was too busy drinking port and FaceBook-ing. Meh, there's hundreds of these in England, I'll haf another chance I'm sure.
